Japan Trip Updates

15 Days to go

posted 12 Sep 2018, 15:51 by Lizzie Greenstreet   [ updated 12 Sep 2018, 15:51 ]

We are very close now to our departure date and there are a few things to remember.
  1. blog site- Please make sure you are able to view this and comment.  We had some difficulty with approving comments but we have sorted this now so please try this before next week.  This will be the only contact while we are over there.  https://pakintjapan2018.blogspot.com/
  2. Passports- Mr Johnston will be collecting all passports and keeping them in the school safe until we leave.  The students only need to worry about themselves and their luggage, we will bring all passports and tickets.
  3. Japan in the news- Japan has been in the news recently for some major weather events.  These events are far enough away from our destination that they will have no effect on the trip.  While I can't guarantee fine weather, I can tell you that the areas the group is going to are currently under no threat with no issues.  As I type this the temperature in Tokyo is 21 degrees with a high expected of 27.
  4. Meeting next week- We would like all parents/caregivers to be at the meeting next Tuesday evening at 7pm in Room 1.  We will give out contact details and other information for our time over there.  I would like to share contact details of all parents with each other (phone and email).  If you would prefer your details were not on this list, please let me know.
Thank-you and we will see you next Tuesday.

Parent Meeting 14 August

posted 16 Aug 2018, 17:43 by Lizzie Greenstreet

Thanks to those who were able to make it on Tuesday night.

Our next and last meeting is Tuesday September 18th 7pm.  It is vital that everyone attend this meeting as we will hand out information booklets for parents and go over final details about departure and arrival.

  1. Communication during the trip will be through the blog site: https://pakintjapan2018.blogspot.com/  Follow the link and make a comment on the first post to make sure you can.  If you have any problems, reply to this email and we will fix this before the trip.
  2. If there are any special meal requirements we need to know now e.g vegetarian/nut allergies. Airlines will not take any responsibility for traces of nuts in food. If anyone has a nut allergy they need to take their own food.
  3. Spending money: Our travel agent is happy to do a bulk money exchange for spending money, this will reduce fees and hopefully get a good rate.  If you would like to do this, please give your $250 to the office by the 14th September.
  4. Shirts have been ordered.  These will be purchased by the school so that they can be used for future Japan trips.  Each student will have two shirts to take and they will be worn on the two days at school as well as the welcome ceremony.
  5. Please remember to purchase small gifts for the homestay families.  This could be as simple as a bag of lollies for the kids and a NZ themed tea towel for the parents.
  6. Airpoints – please let me know if ayou have Air NZ airpoints numbers. If not, it is free to join at www.airnewzealand.co.nz

posted 1 May 2018, 15:34 by Lizzie Greenstreet   [ updated 1 May 2018, 16:11 ]

Thank-you to those who were able to make the meeting last night.  Our next Parent meeting is Tuesday 19th June, again at 7pm in Room 1.

Points covered last night:
  1. Flights are booked- Depart Friday 28th September 9am, Arrive Sunday 7th October 12:40pm
  2. Please hand a copy of your passport to the office, either bring this in and the office staff will copy it for you or copy the details page yourself.
  3. Travel insurance application forms handed out.  Please complete and hand back to the office.  If there is any pre-exisiting medical condition remember to complete the back page of the form.  The insurance company will assess and decide if they need to contact you for extra information.
  4. There is an opportunity for fundraising is enough people are interested.  You will pay the office $60 and receive a box of chocolates to sell.  Once the box is sold you get your $60 back so you are not out of pocket.  Of the money you paid to the office, $24 goes straight to your trip money and the rest is paid for the chocolates.  Please return the permission slip that will come home if you are interested in participating.  We need a minimum of 10 boxes for this to go ahead.
  5. Kirsty Williams (Brooke's Mum) has also said she has some fundraising ideas if others are interested in working together on this.  Please contact her if you would like to organise this, you can email me and I will forward you her contact details.
  6. A reminder to please keep up with payments.  All dates are on the timeline sheet handed out with the acceptance letter.

Parent Meeting 1 - 20th March

posted 19 Mar 2018, 16:23 by Lizzie Greenstreet   [ updated 19 Mar 2018, 16:25 ]

We are now gathering the initial information needed for our trip and planning out our timeline ready for the end of Term 3.  Parent meetings will be held in Room 1 at 7pm according to the timeline.  If there are any changes to this we will notify you.

Please remember to complete the health and medical form and the caregiver contact details and return these to the office as soon as possible.

Student meetings are now underway on Tuesday lunchtime in Room 3.  These are compulsory and all students must attend unless they have made arrangements with Mrs Greenstreet, Mr Johnston, or Mrs Naidoo.

Please consider hosting one or two of the Japanese students who will be visiting us in August this year.  It is an excellent opportunity to get to know some of the students before we go there and a great cultural exchange.    Further information will come out from Mrs Naidoo when this is available.

Lastly, this is a good time to check that your passport is current and is valid for at least 6 months after the trip.  If you hold a passport from a country other than New Zealand, please let us know so we can check the required visas.
